5 Frame Honey Bee Nuc DEPOSIT

One of the major benefits of Nucs (short for "nucleus colony") over packaged bees is that Nucs already contain a laying queen with brood that are either hatching or getting ready to hatch. This includes nurse and worker bees who are ready to begin caring for the queen and leaving the hive to forage soon after emerging from their cells. Nucs also have pollen and food stores established so your colony has the best chance of survival right from the beginning.

Pro Nuc or Wooden Nuc Box — What’s the Difference?

When reserving your spring nuc, you have the option of choosing a plastic Pro Nuc or a wooden nuc box. So, what’s the difference?

Plastic Pro Nuc
The Pro Nuc is designed specifically with transportation in mind. It is lightweight, easy to handle, and well ventilated, making it a convenient option for safely getting your bees from our bee yard to yours.

Wooden Nuc Box
The wooden nuc box is a sturdier, reusable piece of beekeeping equipment. After transferring your nuc into its full-size hive, you can keep the wooden box and use it again for splits, swarm catches, or other needs around your apiary.

Whichever option you choose, your nuc will need to be transferred into a larger hive once you get it home. A nuc is already an established, growing colony, and those bees need additional space to continue building and expanding.
