WHAT IS GALLBERRY HONEY
Gallberry honey comes from the nectar of the Gallberry plant's delicate white blossoms which bloom in late spring and early summer. This makes it a mono-floral variety of honey - meaning it is produced by bees primarily collecting nectar from a single type of flower or plant species.
Because of it's single origin pollen, Gallberry honey has a distinct flavor and aroma profile. Gallberry honey is a harmonious fusion of deep, earthy notes intertwined with a tantalizing hint of sweetness. This honey captivates with its rich, amber hue and bold, robust flavor. Its complexity makes it a versatile culinary companion, perfect for drizzling over warm breads, stirring into hot beverages, or enhancing a variety of dishes.
WHY HONEY?
- Nutrient Content: Honey contains a variety of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Honey can provide some essential nutrients, including vitamin C, calcium, and iron.
- Antioxidant Properties: Honey is rich in antioxidants, including flavonoids and polyphenols. Antioxidants help protect your body from oxidative stress and may reduce the risk of chronic diseases.
- Wound Healing: Honey has been used for its wound-healing properties for centuries! It has natural antibacterial properties and can help promote the healing of minor cuts, burns, and wounds when applied topically.
- Cough and Sore Throat Relief: Honey can provide relief from coughs and sore throats. Mixing honey with warm water or herbal teas can soothe a sore throat and reduce coughing. It's even a common ingredient in many over-the-counter cough syrups!
- Allergy Symptom Relief: The exposure to small amounts of local pollen in honey may desensitize the immune system to allergens over time therefore helping to alleviate allergy symptoms.
- Energy Boost: Honey is a source of natural sugars, primarily fructose and glucose, which can provide a quick energy boost. *Know a long distance runner or cyclist? A pack of honey straws makes a thoughtful gift! These are often used by athletes as an energy source during endurance activities.
- Digestive Health: Honey has been shown to have digestive benefits, such as soothing an upset stomach and potentially aiding in the treatment of gastrointestinal issues like gastritis. Raw honey will also act as a prebiotic, promoting the growth of beneficial gut bacteria.
- Skin Health: Its antibacterial and moisturizing properties make it a popular ingredient in facial masks and creams.
- Weight Management: Some studies suggest that substituting honey for refined sugar in your diet may help control appetite and reduce overall calorie intake. However, it's important to consume honey in moderation, as it is still calorie-dense.
- Antimicrobial Properties: Honey's natural acidity and low water content create an environment that inhibits the growth of certain microorganisms, making it a powerful natural preservative.
