Sting Relief Drawing Salve
Sting Relief Drawing Salve
As beekeepers, we needed a topical solution for the nearly daily occurrence of bee stings. And, as parents, we wanted a natural way to soothe our kids inevitable bug bites and skin irritations. When we couldn't find a product that fit our family's needs, we created Sting Relief - a drawing salve for insect bites, stings, rashes, poison ivy, and more!
HOW DOES IT WORK
A drawing salve, also known as a healing salve or black salve, is a topical ointment used to treat various skin conditions. Our salve contains Activated Charcoal & Bentonite Clay - two natural substances that are known for their ability to soothe irritated skin and provide relief from discomfort. Here's how each of these substances works to alleviate the symptoms of bug bites:
Activated Charcoal: Activated charcoal is a porous material that has been treated to increase its surface area and adsorption capacity. It's often used for detoxification and treating various skin conditions due to its ability to adsorb toxins and impurities. When applied to bug bites, activated charcoal can help in the following ways:
-
Reducing Itching: Activated charcoal can help alleviate itching by adsorbing irritants, toxins, and histamines released by the body's immune response to the bug bite. This can provide relief from the itching sensation associated with bug bites.
-
Drawing Out Toxins: Activated charcoal has a strong adsorption capacity, which means it can pull toxins and irritants away from the skin's surface. This can help minimize the impact of the bug bite and promote faster healing.
-
Cooling Sensation: When mixed with water or other soothing ingredients, activated charcoal can create a cooling paste that can provide a soothing sensation when applied to the affected area.
Bentonite Clay: Bentonite clay is a natural clay formed from volcanic ash. It has a high adsorption and swelling capacity, making it effective for various skincare applications. When used for bug bites, bentonite clay works in the following ways:
-
Absorbing Irritants: Bentonite clay can absorb irritants from the skin's surface, helping to reduce itching and inflammation caused by bug bites. Its ability to bind to toxins and impurities can promote a calming effect on the affected area.
-
Drawing Out Fluids: Bentonite clay's swelling properties can help draw out excess fluid and pus from the bug bite, which can contribute to faster healing and reduced swelling.
-
Mineral Content: Bentonite clay contains minerals like silica, magnesium, and calcium, which can have a soothing and nourishing effect on the skin. These minerals can support the healing process and promote overall skin health.
Other Ingredients: Olive oil, basil essential oil, tea tree essential oil, and beeswax.
